The Rules!

(ominous music here..OMINOUS! OMINIOUS I SAID! NOT THIS! GAAH!)

Welcome to New Horizons! Now, the name's not much but it's the most I could come up with in a pinch. You know the basic drill, no flames, no spamming, keep cursing to a minimum unless it is necesarry for the sake of RP, no adult/hentai content please.

With that out of the way.. this is a Pokemon Role Playing board that is meant for.. well.. Role Playing. Unlike other Pokemon clubs/role playing groups/etc, there are few rules on this. Want to be a gym leader of your hometown? Sure thing. Want to have the Rare Birds at your disposal? Go ahead: BUT! Of course there are rules. I ask you, having Rare super powerful Pokemon are all good and nice, but please don't unless you have a good reason to. I think playing as a trainer just getting their start is more fun than being able to blow others away, which brings me to the main point of the board:

This is not a battle board! Pokemon is centered around battling, and of course some battles shall arise, but this is based mostly around character interaction and such! We want to see characters developing, helping out others, intwining storylines, etc. Please don't battle just for the sake of battling, battle for storyline! If we can keep it this way, I'll be fine and we'll get along great.

Another pet peeve of mine: Made up Pokemon. Pokemon that may be used on this board are the traditional 151, as well as all known Gold/Silver Pokemon. However! G/S Pokemon may not be had by trainers on this board, they may only be involved for storyline purposes. Also, I would prefer it if people on here keep their use of Mew's and Mewtwo's low, as these two intwining species will probably be playing a big role in my character's storyline. It wouldn't do for Toraeru to be trying to preserve the rare creatures while 50 people are duking it out with 6 Mewtwo teams. This is one of my main requests.

On the topic of posts: Posts will be handled like this. You post the name of your storyline or the one you wish to join in, a dash, and then the name of your post. i.e. Protection of the Mews - The Beginning or Journey to Masara - Through the Forest. All Out of Character posts will be written as OOC - Storyline question? or OOC - What's going on? This will help greatly to remain organized. This is all I can think of now, so please abide by these rules and remember: Toraeru's word is law around here. You don't like it, you don't have to participate.

Ok, here is how all fighting will be handled. Dusty's way, which is easier to read and write, but is choppier when considering the rest of the story, or Toraeru's way, which is more story like. Also remember, THERE CAN BE NO MADE UP ATTACKS! However, a Pokemon or Trainer that has expressed special abilities might be able to use them in battle, depending upon how it is played out.

Dusty's Way: You basically dictate it as a Game Boy battle.

-So and so wants to fight
-You sent out Pokemon A
-So and so sent out Pokemon B
-Pokemon A used Attack
-Pokemon B used Attack
-Critical Hit!
-Pokemon A used Attack
-Pokemon B's attack down!
-Pokemon B used Attack

Etc. Pretty simple, ne?

Toraeru's Way: this is basically the exact same way, except you describe each thing as it happens in the sequence of turns. For example.

-Trainer A grabbed the Pokeball from his belt and released Pokemon A.
-Trainer B grabbed his own Pokeball and released Pokemon B.
-Trainer A glanced toward the released Pokemon before shouting "A, attack!" And the Pokemon A obliged, releasing a flurry of attack into Pokemon B. It was a critical hit, sending him stumbling back quite a bit.
-Trainer B, seeing this, called out "B, attack!" and his Pokemon lashed forward after a moment of catching it's breath from the barrage against it, slamming forward into Pokemon A.

Etc. Basically the same battle styles, with differing amounts of description. Not too hard, ne? For more examples, read the "Showdown" postings in Toraeru's Plan. If you have any comments or complaints about the battle styles, contact me at the usual e-mail addy, [email protected] or Dusty at [email protected], and thanks for participating.
