Back Story: Samus is a surfer. He's not a hard-core pokemon trainer that devoted his life to becoming Master anything at the age of 10. Instead he finished out school (it's a different system in the world of pokemon, school goes until you're 14, then you go to extended school-like college), therefore he is not an idiot like some people think all surfers are. Now he lives in his hometown of Vermillion where he was born and raised. There he has a job at the Pokemon Center as an average pokemon medical assistant. On his free time Samus is an avid surfer and really quite good. Sometimes he travels to surfing contests for the fun of it and to get a little extra money to live on. He also works as a deck hand on the SS Anne when it comes into town and has worked for a few summers on cruises.

Though he never took up the pokemon journey like many people do Samus does have and train a few pokemon. He was given a Kangaskan on his tenth birthday out of tradition and merely as token even though he had decided not to go collecting badges. Samus trains pokemon as a hobby and has rescued a few from the sea. In fact Samus set up a small Pokemon Rescue operation on the beach near his home and got it sponsored by the Pokemon League. Now after they have rested and been healed Samus releases them into the wild, but before it was an official operation he kept a Dratini, the first pokemon he found on the beach, and a Vaporeon. He only kept these two because he didn't think he would start a Rescue operation and they were in bad shape when he found them.

Altogether Samus has Kangaskan, Dratini, Hitmonchan, Nidoran, Flareon, Jolteon, Golem, Ivysaur, Vapeoron, Cubone, Kabutops, Charmander, Pidgeot.

With this team of pokemon he has earned a Thunder, Cascade, Marsh, and Rainbow badge, while he was on trips to those cities for other reasons. Though he isn't on the same level as the Elite Four the fact that Samus only has a few pokemon has allowed him to train them very well and he is a formidable opponent. A lot of what he knows about training comes from battle experience he had while working on the SS Anne. During those times he has entered a few tournaments that were running as part of big pokemon Expos on the boat.

About appearance Samus looks like a typical surfer. He wears loud Hawaiian button shirts or a tie-dye rashguard (like the shirt part of a wet suit, worn while surfing to keep from getting a rash from rubbing against grit on a surfboard), his filpflops and orange boardshorts.
